“Work the slip stitch from right to left with the folded edge of the hem allowance facing toward you and the folded edge of the garment facing away. Bring the needle up through the hem allowance, then pick up a thread or two of the outer fabric with the needle. Insert the needle into the folded edge of the fabric, a thread or two to the right of where the needle came out, and slip it through for about 1/4 inch. In one motion, bring the needle out from the folded edge and pick up another thread or two of the outer fabric. Repeat. make four or five individual stitches, then draw up the thread firmly, taking care not to pull too tight. All the stitches should disappear.”
